Chandrayaan – 2, the most prestigious project developed and executed by ISRO, drew attention across the globe, marking its impression in Indian space history. Exceptional track record of ISRO and its commitment to imprint its trails on the moon created high expectations for everyone.

It did make a significant impact, although the aim of the mission is not fulfilled. It’s not a flop one as some media houses have published.

We can recollect the statement, ISRO chairman has said: “mission has achieved 90-95% of its objectives and the data thus generated would be useful for the global scientific community”.

Mission’s Journey

Chandrayaan-2 is a sequel to the Chandrayaan-1 mission launched a decade ago that discovered the presence of water on the moon. Chandrayaan-2 mission is a highly complicated mission, which depicts a significant technological leap compared to the previous missions of ISRO. It included an orbiter, lander, and rover to explore the unexplored south pole of the moon.
