Abhijit Banerjee gets Nobel Prize in Economics

Abhijit Vinayak Banerjee, an Indian-American won Sveriges Riksbank Nobel prize in 2019 along with Esther Duflo[mfn]Esther Duflo is an American-French Economist who won the “Nobel Prize in Economics” in 2019. She is the second woman after Elinor Ostrom to win Nobel Prize in Economics and is the wife of Abhijit Banerjee.[/mfn] and Michale Kremer[mfn]Michael Robert Kremer is an American Economist who won the Nobel Prize in Economics in 2019 along with Abhijit Banerjee and Esther Duflo.[/mfn] for their “experimental approach to alleviating Global Poverty”. He is the second Indian to get awarded in Economics after Amartya Sen[mfn]Amartya Sen is an Indian Economist and was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1998 for his contribution to Welfare Economics.[/mfn] in 1998.

The three Nobel laureates were among the first to attempt to estimate the real-world effects of poverty-alleviation efforts in a variety of areas, including access to credit, preventive health care and the adoption of new technologies.
